Besides, it is preposterous to suppose that an unwilling girl, only nine years old, should be able to delude a whole company of grown-up people into the conviction that they hear sounds which have no real existence. ‘You know of course that these knocks con- vey a spiritual communication; to compare great things with small, they may be likened to the signals of a telegraphic instrument deliver- ing a message from the Unseen.
