    No doubt literature has something to say for it with us, and if the Tories have a Premier of that kind we have had a couple at least. But mathe- matics ! I always said these Germans were owls. For the first time in my life I have a sense of settled conviction on such matters, a welcome substitute for the restless anxious feelings which I then strove to smother or to laugh out of existence. I feel this so strongly that I am sorely tempted to rush into print at once on the sub- ject for the benefit of my former associates.
