    Analysis of sample of CO from the burette. The result of the titration of the blood was as follows: A. Titration up to tint of animal’s blood. 2*7 c.c. of carmine not quite enough. 2*9 c.c. right 3*1 c.c. ,, = 3*1 c.c. 3*3 c.c. „ 3*5 c.c. slightly too much. B. Titration up to tint of same blood saturated with CO. 5*4 c.c. not quite enough. 5*7 c.c. right 6*0 c.c. ,, • = 6'0. 6*3 c.c. ,, . 6*6 c.c. slightly too much. ,. 3-1 11 .-. saturation = -r x -w- =70 1%. 0*1 o Corrected for dissociation = 72 T%. As 72 T% corresponds on the dissociation curve to •177% of CO, the oxygen tension of the blood was fff x 20-9 = 48-1 % of au atmosphere. Corrected for aqueous vapour this becomes 4(1'2 %• No. 2. Experiment on grey linnet in air containing a high percentage of oxygen. The bottle containing the animal was ventilated in the manner already described with a mixture of air and gas from a cylinder of compressed oxygen (Brin’s). This gas contained about 88 % of oxygen. The CO was added in the ordinary way to the current of air, and a sample from a bottle placed between the animal chamber and the meter was taken for analysis.
