About this work

Description

Il toson d'oro, o sia Il Velo di Frigia di Filaleta portato dal Francese in Italiano dal M.I.V. The work is an Italian version of Philaletha's 'Introitus apertus', as is stated on p. 3, where the heading is 'Filaleta o Entrata aperta del Palazzo serato dal Re'. There is a Latin introduction on the three fly-leaves before the title, which is continued on two fly-leaves at the end. On the first fly-leaf is a 'Rimedio ad ogni male causato dal sangue' which is stated to have been 'ritrovato in Casa Linati' on September 1, 1727. On the last leaf is written 'Giovanni Sterckei Inglese adepto'. This is presumably intended for George Starkey [ -1665] whose name has been connected with that of the mysterious Eirenaeus Philaletha [cf. Ferguson 'Bibliotheca Chemica', Vol. II, pp. 190-194, 403-405].
