MEMORABILIA. 1542 1749 1772 A scarce book. best edition of Simpson.** Very valuable edition.]: * Previous to these editions (the earliest noticed by Harwood,) it may not be improper to mention a very curious one in the Pinell. Cat. “ Latinfc, a Philelpho. Abs], ulla. twin, sedlloma', 1474, quarto.” It is called “ Liber longe rarissimus ” and is supposed lobe printed by Arnoldus de Villa. This book was purchased by Mr. Knight for 4/. 14r. 67. In the Biblioth. Croft- feiana, there is another curious quarto edition, Gra-cfc: Paris, 1539, con- taining the “ Libri quatuor postcriores.” It is styled, “ Editin rarissima, Fabrido incognita, et cuji/s prima pars ipsi Maittnirio latuil.” In cor. lure. along with the “ Libri quatuor priores,” Paris, Wechel, 1538, it sold for IL 3s. •f- “ This edition, and the Cvri Expeditio of Hutchinson, are executed with great learning and judgment, and arc an honour to the University of Oxford. I cannot forbear expressing an ardent wish, that the University would finish this edition of Xenophon’s Works, which this excellent Editor designed, but left imperfect.” Harwood. In Mr. Lgerton’s Cat. 1801, these editions by Hutchinson, are marked at 2/. 2r. In Mr. Faulder’s Cat. 1797, at 'll. 15s. cor in rnssico. A copy, CHART. MAX. 4 vols. sold at Dr. Askew’s sale for 13/. 2s. 67. Tlie same, 2 vols. splemlid in Morocco, is marked at 10/. 10.,-. Payne’s Cat. 1801. The edition of the Cyropardia alone, (in the same Cat.) large p<rj>cr, is valued at 51. 5s. || In Mr. Faulder’s Cat. 1797, there are two copies of this edition, fine paper, at 1 Or. 6.7. and 12s. In the Appendix to Mr. White’s Cat. 1801, No. 1 1633, the same is marked at 1/. Ur. 6.7. Both this, and the preceding edit, of the Cyrop. Glasgow, 1767, chart, opt. are becoming scarce. Of the latter work, see White’s Cat. No. 5248, where a Glasgow edit, of 1784, ch. opt. is styled rariss: anti marked 1/.
