    1V PREFACE. sesses at least one merit, the only one claimed by its author, he having been swayed, in the collec- tion of the materials of which it is composed, by no interest, biassed by no opinion, neither seeking to please nor caring to offend any one. It has been his sole wish and endeavour to furnish the stranger with every kind of accurate information which may be useful to him on his arrival and during his sojourn at Nice, and he trusts the invalid will find some remarks conducive to the comfort of his term of residence. To those members of the profession, who, with the author, are interested in pathological research, no apology will be offered for the introduction of the chapter on ‘Lubercular Consumption, as it cannot be considered irrelevant in a book on Climate; and as a subject for investigation, it ylelds to none other in importance and deep in- terest. The Author would apologize for the imcom- pleteness of his remarks on the climate of Bag- neres de GBigorre, did he not consider that they are the only ones yet offered to the profession, aud that the importance ‘of the object to which
