![In curing the gutta ferena, by internal and external nervous and them! medicines and applications, co-operating with electricity ; and cata¬ racts, uiilefs mature, without manual operation — the former a diforder e- yer deemed incurable, and the latter a difeafe never removed but by the operation of couching or extracting, he has been tar more iuccefsful than his predecefTors appear to have been—-than his cotemporaries can boaft of. That he has been peculiarly Iuccefsful in curing deafnefs pro¬ ceeding, not from wax obftrufting the auditory pafTage, but from nervous, gouty, rheumatic and (corbutic caufes, and in radically healing ulcerations in the ears, will appear abundantly obvious in perufing the cafes and cures hereunto annexed. This great city, at once the'beft judge and the moft generous re¬ warder of ufeful merit, is at prelent lo well Applied with practitioners in Phyfic and Surgery, with gentlemen fo eminent in their profeffion, fq worthy and capable of the great, the important charge, with which they are intruded I that tigs addiefi may, to fome> appear an unneceflary ob- trufion. To obviate however, and to anfwer any invidious furmiles that may arife, the Doctor prefumes only to mention that, he has long con¬ fined his ftudies and practice folely to the ftryCture and difeafes of thole pre¬ cious organs: and may not a cure be more reasonably expected from the hands of a perfon of even common capacity, who in one month has had more diftempered eyes and ears under his care, than any one engaged in the general practice, hath had perhaps in his whole life ?— The manipreinarkable cures Doctor Graham has fo happily per¬ formed in the difeafes of the eyes and ears—the unremitting attention and moderation, which he conftantly obferves in his arduous profeffion—the Sympathizing tendernefs with which he attempts to alleviate the misfor¬ tunes of the blind and deaf—his candid dilintereftednefs in rejecting, at firft fight, the incurable—and above all, bis anxious endeavours to ob¬ tain and to preferve the confidence of the public, and the approbation of his own conlcience—he humbly hopes, have obliterated the remembrance q£ moft of his predecefTors—ftimuiated to improvement and honefty, fome of his cotemporaries—removed the odium, and recovered to dignity and re- fpecc a profeffion of all others the moft important—the moft God like !—- thcle confiderations attended to, and thefe principles admitted—Doctor Graham begs leave for his own lake, but more for the fake of them- felves, families, and friends, moft eareftly to invite all blind or deaf per* fons of whatever age or fex, and' in whatever circumftances or fituation, to apply to him, perionally, as fopn as poffible ; let not confirmed dis¬ orders, though unfuccefsftelly treated or deemed incurable by other prac¬ titioners ; weaknels or infirmities; poverty nor old age prevent them for, while the niceft obfervations, in a courfe of practice far more exten- five and more fuccefsful than that of any other practitioner inEurope, direct his judgment, he thus publicly pledges himfelf, that candour and courtely fhall at all times controul his opinion.—Never neglecting the poor, fcoriiing to make a property of the rich, or to prey on the credulous, his beft abilities fhall always be exerted to ferve every individual who may $»nour him with their confidence.
