The movable slide and permanent arms at the end arc sharp ])ointed. The bar upon which the free slide moves is ruled in centi- metres. The other JBSthesiometers are mostly shaped like dividers, and whether tliey be Hammond's or Carrol's, they are open to the objection that the ])oints arc lial)le to be unconsciously approximated when the instrument is removed, so that the result of investigation is somewhat unreliable.
