Decisions of Local Authority to Cancel in Spite of Tenant’s Objection Certificates Cancelled by Local Authority... ] GENERAL HOUSING The flatlets for old persons at Poynton were opened in July. The building comprises 9 flatlets with accommodation for a warden, guest room, communal sitting room and a laundry. The scheme was carried out by Messrs. Charlesworth Bros. Congleton to designs by the Council's Engineer and Surveyor. The County Welfare Committee are responsible for that portion of the scheme which relates to welfare including the salary of the warden. The only stipulation made by County Welfare is that tenants should be over 65 unless there is some compelling reason such as infirmity. There was reluctance at first to accept a tenancy on the part of certain applicants when it was seen that the bathing and w.c. facilities were communal. The age range of tenants varies from 65 upwards so that whilst some tenants are virtually housebound others are able to do part-time work. There are seven women «nd two men. The Council was fortunate in the choice of a warden who has built up a happy community. INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOP^ Milk The procedure set out in the Annual Report for 1962 for dealing with milk found to be positive to the brucella species on cultural examination is still in operation. The opinion expressed in previous reports that early steps should be taken to eradicate brucellosis in cattle as was so effectively done in the case of tuberculosis cannot be too strongly reiterated. There are 71 dairy herds in the district from which milk is sold raw to the public.
