    PREFACE. The following Extracts are literal copies of all that is recorded concerning Harvey in the journals of Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital. It is one of the brightest features in the history of that noble institution that he, the great discoverer of the circulation, “ Physiologic lumen; Anglic immor- tale decus,” was for four and thirty years its phy- sician, more honoured by its Governors, and ex- ercising a greater influence in its affairs, than any medical officer before the time of Abernetliy. Hence, trivial as some of the records may seem, I am sure they will be read with interest by those who are zealous for the honour of Saint Bar- tholomew’s ; to them it cannot but be pleasure to dwell on all that relates to the great Harvey in his connection with their Hospital.
