![Michel also uses atropine in the form of an oint- ment, in one-quarter of one to one per cent. strengths- He considers six to eight drops of a half of one per cent, strength solution a maximal daily dose for an adult. The symptoms of atropine intoxication, such as dryness of the throat, acceleration of the pulse, vertigo, scarlatiniform redness of the skin, should be looked for in some children. Should restlessness, quickened breathing, and rapid pulse exist (the first signs of atropine poisoning), strong coffee should be prescribed. Strong solutions of atropine for the removal of synechias are not to be recommended; nor is hyoscine to be used for children, as it readily produces symptoms of intoxication (see Chap. in). Homatropine may be employed when atropine can- not be borne. Concerning the use of atropine applied in substance (Fuchs1), see page 50. 210. R. Homatropinse, oi gm.
