At Rome on the creation of a pope or a cardinal, and in other parts of Italy on occafion of births or marriages of princes, fome great nobleman or fome ambaffador has a cantata made on purpofe; that is, a kind of triumphal or epithala- mic fong, which is fung in fome large hall to the aobility invited by the owner of the feaft, and not feldom to a great concourfe of people, who go there as genteely mafked as they can.
