[DELHI 1835] ea 2 فتو 11111 al-ghaib. Rules of asceticism, compiled by “Abd al-Oadir al-Jili (or al-Jilani, d. 561/1166, see Nafahat al-uns 586), and edited by his son Sharaf al-Din ‘Isa. The work is described in the following terms by a later nasta‘liq hand on the front fly-leaf (fol. 1a): الجيلانى . . . وجامعه واده... شرف الدين ... كاتبه ومالكه عزت الله بيك ee Beginning: | ..عبى القادر بن ابى si قال والدى الامام الاوحد. صالح ١... 0 لله رب العاليين واخرا...اما بعد فان نعّم الله على العباد كثيرة متواترة فى اناء الليل واطراف النهار الخ The work consists of a collection of (un- numbered) advices, each being introduced by the phrase وارضاه ais وقال رضى الله . End: فكان يقول استعنت بلا اله الا الله سبحانه وتعالى الفوت [corr. ل وت ولا كن [يهشى GH ا سيدان من تعزز بالقدرة وقبر العباد بالموت 5 اله اله ads} محل رسول الله go oy روحه الكريم رضوان * This person is perhaps to be identified with the Mir ‘Izzat Allah who wrote a journal of his travels from Attak to Bukhara in 1227—-8/1812~-13:see Ethé, Catalogue of Persian MSS. in the...India Office 2728-9, and the bibliography there quoted. VOESN الله عليه وعلى من ART تمت [22ى] الكتاب بعون الملك الوهاب This copy contains 76 of the 78 chapters enumerated by Ahlwardt; chapters 77 and 78 have been added as a supplement (foll. 92-95), and this supplement ends: وهذه آفة العابدين“وعطب النساك وهلاك الزاهدين اللا من اعانه الله تعالى على حفظ لسائه وقلبه After chapter 76, in the text itself, there follows an account of the death of al-Jili, and of the advices which he gave on his death-bed. This account is called in some copies 44.53: it may be noted that it 5 identical with the account of al-Jili’s death which is appended to the collection of his sermons entitled (4)! —<a! (see Ahlwardt 3402), as well as to the appendix to another collection entitled جلاء الخاطر (see Loth 619- 21), Copies of this work are common: see Ahlwardt 2837-9, Bankipore 852-3, Cairo vil 37, 181, Dozy 2154, Loth 616, Rampur 243-4, etc. It was printed at Constanti- nople in 1281/1864, and lithographed at Lucknow (with a Persian commentary by ‘Abd al-Haqq al-Dihlawi) in 1881: it was also printed at Cairo in 1887 on the margin of the Bahjah al-asrar of ‘Ali ibn -Yusuf al-Lakhmi. 1243 Foll. 1-37; 84x 54 in.; 11. 20; cursive nasta‘liq; rubrications; worm- -eaten and water-stained ; copyist, ‘Abd al- ‘Aziz; dated Calcutta, 27 Ju- mada II 1250/1834.
