    11. —We have still in the Asylum 60 Patients from the County of Stafford, but haying regard to the growing increase in the number of Patients from our own County and City we have thought it desirable to make arrangements with the authorities of the County of Stafford whereby we may, on a short notice, be relieved of 15 of the Male Patients if we should find it necessary to reduce the number to provide accommodation for our own Patients. 12. —The District Auditor of the Local Government Board completed his Audit of the Accounts of the Asylum for the year ending the 31st March, 1894, in the month of December last. 13. —The following Table shows the number of Patients in the Asylum at the last meeting of the House Committee ill of the following years Male. Total. 1889. . 410 . ... 492 . 902 1890. . 430 . ... 508 . 938 1891. . 424 . 555 . 979 1892. . 405 . ... 517 . 922 1893. . 443 . 560 . .... 1003 1894. . 447 . ... 560 . .... 1007 The totals of 1890, 1891, and 1892 include respectively 30, 55, and 25 Male Patients belonging to your County boarded out at the Derby and Abergavenny Asylums, owing to lack of accommodation at Powick. The totals for 1893 and 1894 include the 60 Patients received under the Contract from the Stafford Asylum. 14. —The new Steam Boilers, the purchase of which was sanctioned by the Councils last Summer, have been obtained and fixed in position at a cost of £682, the amount being £68 below the sum authorised to be expended thereon. The boilers have been examined and pronounced satisfactory by the Manchester Boiler Insurance Company. They are working well, and there is no doubt that they are effecting a considerable saving in the consumption of fuel. 15. —Your Committee, considering that adequate provision did not exist for the removal of Patients in case of fire from two of the Dormitories, in each of which 50 Patients slept at night, have thought it desirable to erect staircases to each, external to the building, the cost of which, falling upon the Repairs Account, amount to £76 0s. 4d. It has also been found absolutely necessary to expend the sum of £173 5s. Od. on the repair and strengthening of the ceilings of some of the oldest Wards, which had become very unsafe. A contract was entered into with Messrs. Joseph Wood and Sons for this work.
