![The pool is of modern construction, and the water is filtered and chlorinated by modern processes. Smoke Abatement. It has not been found necessary to make any smoke observations during the year. In no case has there been observed any necessity for such to be made, and no complaints have been received regarding nuisance from excessive smoke emission. Schools. No. of schools in district ... No. with public water supply No. with water closets :— (a) Separate pedestal (b) Trough (c) Hand flushed No. with Earth Closets No. with Privy Closets RATS AND MICE (DESTRUCTION) ACT. Thirty-eight visits were made to affected premises, and eighteen notices were served. Thirteen notices were complied with during the year, and in other cases the work of extermination is making satisfactory progress. Assistance is always given to the occupiers of premises infested with rats, and advisory leaflets No. 49 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries are supplied, Deratisation is continuously carried out at the Council's refuse tips, and at their depots, the methods used being the laying of poison baits and the use of Hydrogen Cyanide in the form of dust discharged into rate holes and runs. Poison baits are also laid in the manholes of the Council's sewers from time to time. MOSQUITOES.
