ORIGINAL DIPLOMA OF A JEWISH PHYSICIAN. 1695 A.D. for] [PICTOR (Copilius).] Original Diploma of a Doctor of Medicine, ‘“ Copilius Pictor Hebraeus, D. Josephi filius,’’ native of Bingen-on-the-Rhine, dated 30th December, 1695. Written on vellum, with two pages richly ornamented in gold and colours, and a portratt of the candidate in colours on the reverse of the first page. Ato, Italian binding beautifully tooled in gold to an elaborate fan design on both covers. Bingen-on-the-Rhine, 1695. (SEE ILLUSTRATION, PLATE No. VII.). £25 It is interesting to note that Copilus Pictor is identical with Jacob Mehler (=Mabhler, Pictor), a Bingen physician (mentioned in Gruenfeld—Zur Geschichte der Juden in Bingen am Rhein (pp. 8 and 22), who was the father of the later Bingen Rabbi Gumprich Mehler.
