About this work

Description

Documentary looking at children born with ambiguous genitals and the impact that this has on their families and lives ahead. The group of conditions causing this is known as disorders of sexual development (DSDs). One of these disorders is congenital adrenal hyperplasia which also causes other medical complaints - CAH sufferer Janet discusses this. Tiger Devore is a psychologist who treats people born with intersex conditions. He himself was born with a disorder of sexual development and he describes how this has affected his life so far. Kate has androgen insensitivity syndrome which was only discovered when she was six years old. Starting a relationship can naturally be more difficult for people with a DSD. Jess didn't know she had any problems until she was a teenager and didn't start her periods. At that point it was discovered that she had been born without a womb. Other people speak anonymously about how traumatic their DSD has been.
