C Appendix, No. 19. LETTER from Geokge Aust, Efq. Commiffary General of Mullers, to the Com- miffioners of Military Enquiry. CommilTary General’s Office, Gentlemen, 7th March 1812. IN compliance with your Requifition, I have the honour to fend you enclofed the prefent Eftablilhment of this Office, with a Statement of the Contingent Allowances annually voted by Parliament, and authorized by His Majefty’s Warrant. Not having been prepared for an Examination before you, refpe&ing this Office, it has fince occurred to me, that I ought perhaps to have ftated to you particularly, though I perceived the matter was known to you from former reports, that a material part of the bufinefs of this Depart¬ ment, confiftsfn the entry in the Regifters, of all Military Commiffions and Leaves of Abfence to Officers, as diredled by the Articles of War ; but that the latter part of this duty, viz. the entry of the Leaves of Abfence to Officers, has been in arrear for upwards of two years paft, owing to my not having been able to obtain, notwithftanding frequent foi'icitations, the requifite Notifications for this purpofe, which had been ufually transmitted to me from the War Office. It may be proper alfo to obferve, that fince the Regulations in t 798, ftated in the 36th Report of the Select Committee of Finance, to which you referred, the interior Bufinefs of this Department has been confiderably increafed, by the Mufters being taken monthly inftead of half-yearly; fu thac from the two Mufter Rolls in a year, the number is augmented to twelve for every Regiment and Corps (except the Guards), the examination and regiftering of which, have occafioned cenHarft employment, and required the affiftan.ee of additional Clerks. I have the honour to be, &'c. (Signed) G. AUST.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30455431_0002_0089.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
