The Operations employed in obtaining them fhall be referred to rhe general Principles, efpecially thole of Elefttvf Attractions already explained* An Explanation of Dr. Cullen’s pharmaceutical Ta¬ ble of Metals, and that of Antimony, pubhihed by my-' felf, will be given. Such a chymical Hiffory of Bodies fhall therefore be given as is neceflary to be underflood either by the Phy- fxcian or Apothecary. II. Of the Medical Virtues of the particular Sub«> stances in my Catalogue of Materia Medica. Such phyfiological Obfe^vations as may afliffc us in un^ derftanding and explaining the Operations of Medicines fhall be delivered. An Account of the different Methods employed by Writers on the Materia Medica, for inveftigating a priori, the Medical Virtues of Subftances, fhall be taken notice of, and the Principles upon which a proper Syftem in Na-*> tural Hiilory depends, fhall be pointed out. An Explanation of all the Terms made Ufe of iamy Catalogue (hall be given. The Subffances in my Catalogue are arranged under ge¬ neral Heads, or indications5 as Nutrientia, Stimulantia, and the like; the Property of fuch an Arrangement fhall be frequently taken notice of. In confidering each Subfiance feparately, the following Order as nearly as poffible, fhall be obferved, 1. Its natural Hiffory. 2. Its fenfible Qualities, 3. Its Fitnefs to anfwer the general Indication, 4. Its Application to particular Difeafes. 5. Its proper Dofe and Formula.
