![r- t 17 ] 6i(Hllefies, ought to be well armed with fuitable tonduftors, which, when perfed, generally convey the eledric fluid filently into a body of water under ground. Should thefe fometimes fail Of the deflred effed, the accident would argue no defed in the principle* but in the condudors, which are often ill conftrudcd* or deprived of their conduding power* by being covered with ruft. 2. To perfons within doors,' who, during a thunder-ftorm, are extremely timorous, cledricians agree in recommending an under-ground cellar, (keeping at a diftance from the walls,) as the fafeft place to which they can retire; becaufe the cledric fluid is diffipated on all fides by the furrounding moifture. j. In the rooms above, they ought carefully to avoid fitting too near any metallic or conduding bodies, as fire-irons, bell-wires, brafs chandeliers, ornamental gildings,- &c. 4. To recline on a mattrefs in the middle of the room, or on a couch, fufpendcd by filken cords, or fupported on glafs feet or baked wood. 5. Perfons without doors ought to avoid taking fhelter Under trees, hedges, or hay-ricks, or leaning againfl: iron pallifadoes, or any pointed, angular, or metallic, body, which may tend to attrad the lightning towards the place.
