![SCAVENGING AND IlEMOVAL OF REFUSE. This iinpoi’tanL 'oranch of ])ulic: service has continued to engage the attention of the Council. The arrangenient of reanoval by contract has continued up to date in the Parishes set out beiow at a total cost for the financial year ending 31st March, 1947, of £2,131 15s lid. This figure includes provision and upkeep of tips. The nuinl)er of houses covered by these contracts was 4,122, the cost per house being I Os 4d per iniiuin, or approximately 2.\d per week. PJaulage and labour difficulties were again experienced resulting in delay in collections and increased total costs. i With a view to improving this service a sub-commitiee was ap- pointed to consider the. purchase of a motor vehicle and removal by dia’cct Council labour. Although the woi-.k of this committee has not yet concluded, at the time of writing larogress has been made and a motoi' vehicle (,‘Karrier 3-ton Refuse Colloctoi-) already pill chased.
