Order of the Star Chamber, 13 May, 1574, that the city and county of Worcester is within the jurisdiction of the council of the principality of Wales. Copy. At the Starre Chamber the xiijth of Maye 1574, A’o. 16 r. r. Elizabethe. Present: the L. keep[er], the L. Thre’r, the L. Admirall, the L. Chambrelaine, Mr. Comptroller, Mr. Secretary Smyth, Mr. Secretary Walsingham, S’r Walt’r Myldmay. Whereas heretofore by order from the lords of her mat’s privy councell upon a certeyne controversie arisen touching the jurisdicc’on of the President and Councell of the Principalitie of Wales and marches of the same latelie impeached and brought in question for a private cause by one Robert Wylde seekinge nowe to exempt the cittie and county of Worcester from the authoritie of the same councell, ffor the better triall of the same surmise the said controversie was comytted to the Queene’s mat’s Atturney and Sollicito’r generall to consider thereof, and upon the p[er]usinge aswell of the statute made for the estab[l]ishinge of the said lord President and councell there, and such com’issions and instructions as have beene in former tymes graunted to them, and are by her Ma’tie graunted nowe, and upon the hering of such learned councell as should repaire unto them on the behalf ot the said lord President and Councell, and the said Robert Wield, to declare such reasons as they might have for the defence and mainteynance of their cause The said atturney and sollicito’r gen’all to make report unto their lordshippes what they shall thincke agreable to the lawes provided for the said councell Fforasmuch as thys daie the said Atturney and Sollicito’r Generall havinge heard the learned councell of both sydes, have nowe upon good advise and deliberac’on made their report by mouth unto the lordes in the presence of the said Wield that the said cittie and countie of Worcester be not by lawe exempted trom the jurisdicc’on of the of the said Councell, but ought in all respects as diverse other shires doe acknowledge and obey the same and as in tymes heretofore of a long contynuans they have don, And that the said councell is sufficiently warranted by the said statute, her mat’s comission and instructions to exercise jurisdicc’on in the same as before tyme hath beene used.
