![[262] 18. A. xxxvii (bound with 18. A. xxxiii—xxxvii). The dedication of an intended history of Britain, by John Lewis ; early 17 cent. Harleian 4872, f. 242, is an imperfect copy of the History, and Additional MS. 6921 is a transcript of the Harleian MS. The History was printed in 1729 (sLlyfr. y Cy?nry, 354). For the author see YCymmrodor, vii, 106, note (Eg. Phillimore). A copy of the present art. is in Hengvvrt 228 {Arch. Camb., 4th Ser., i, 75). [263] 18. A. Ixxy. The dissent [descent] of the most victorious and chrysten prince K. Edward the sext, that goeth lynyally to Brute and agreith with the best chronycles in Welsh. The abbot of Llynegwestill, maister doct’r Even Pole, Syr John Lyaff, Griffyn [Gutyn] Owen, Rob’t ap Hoell ap Thomas, John King &c. &c. hathe founde and proved this good and true lyneige. At the end of the MS. are the words “p’ me Davidi Hollandi off Ruthyn,” and at the beginning is the autograph of Humfrey Lloyd. The finding of the commission, said to have been issued by Henry VII to Sir John Leiaf and others to set forth the king’s descent from the kings and princes of Wales, was printed in Dr. David Powel’s Historic of Cambria (ed. 1697) without reference to the source whence it was derived, and it was again printed in the 1774 edition of the History. Sir S. R. Meyrick, whilst including it in his introduction to Lewis Dwn’s Heraldic Visitation of Wales, refers to the absence of authority for it. There is no doubt that, as in the case ot the Historic, Dr. Powel made extensive use of the manuscripts of Humphrey Lloyd which had come into his possession, altering the originals to suit his purposes (see remarks upon Cottonian, Caligula A. vi, p. 8 a?ite). The present MS. is much fuller than the print, and contains a number of interesting details which Powel has omitted. [264] 18. A. lxxvii. Seventeenth century transcripts of the following charters :— (a) fif. 6-7. Charter of 17 Edw. Ill creating his son Edward prince of Wales, &c. (d) ff. 8-14. Confirmation of statute passed 33 Hen. VI regulating the household of the prince of Wales. The Act of Parliament, which also embodies the charter of creation of the prince of Wales, is set forth in Rotnli Parlia- mentorum, v, 290.
