A petition from one William Hobbye (evidently insane) to lord Burghley for permission to drive the devil and his dam from a vast treasure hid in the castle of Skenfrith, Montgomeryshire; 28 April, 1589. The volume seems to be made up of the effusions of lunatics. 166J 102. f. 215. Original minutes of a letter from lord Burghley to Sir Edward Stradling, who had seized the person of an heiress, and unjustly detained the evidences of her lands. Also the minutes of a letter to Sir .... Karn [Sir John Carne] to take possession of the young lady’s property in trust for the Crown ; 1584. The lady was Barbara, daughter of John Gamage, and heiress of Coity. For an interesting account of her, see the Stradling Corresp07ide?ice, edited by the rev. J. M. Traherne. [67] 104. (a) f. 108. Rough draft in lord Burghley’s handwriting of charges and allowances for the council of the Welsh Marches. (b) f. 183. The Welsh descent of the family of Cecil ; end of 16th cent. The descent is made out as follows— Robert Sitsyllt, one of the knights who joined Fitzhamon in the conquest of Glamorgan. He married and so became possessed of Halterennes [? Allt yr ynys] and other lands in the counties of Hereford and Gloucester. James Sitsyllt, a partizan of Maud, slain at the siege of Walling- ford Castle, a° 4 Stephen, “ having then upon him a vesture whereon was wrought in neadle workke his armes or ensignes as they be made upon the tombe of Geraud Sitsillt in the abbey of Dore, w’ch are afterward truly blazed in a judgment gyven by comission of kinge Edwarde the Third for the auncient right ot the same armes.”](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29001043_0001_0095.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
