![304. Creosote Ointment.—Bo Creosoti guttas quadraginta; unguenti resinae, adipis, singulorum unciam. Misce. 305. Carbolic Acid Ointment.—Bo Acidi carbolici gr. x.-xxx.; adipis benzoati unciam. Misce. See Carbolic Oil, F. 275. 306. Carbolic Acid Putty is made with liquefied carbolic acid 2 drachms; linseed oil 1 oz.; prepared chalk 4 oz., well mixed. 307. Peruvian Balsam Ointment.—rjb Balsami Peruviani 5j.; unguenti cetacei Jj. Misce. This and the two foregoing, like the old elemi ointment, are good stimulating applications to indolent and sloughing ulcers; but the creosote ointment is the best. It is good also for piles. 308. Chalk Ointment.—Bo Cretas preparatas ^j.; olei olivee 5iij. -r adipis Jss. Misce. For burns, excoriations with acrid discharge, &c. 309. Bismuth Ointment.—Bo Bismuthi nitratis 5ij.; adipis jvj. Misce. A capital ointment for excoriations and irritable sores. 310. Magnesia Ointment.—Jfc Magnesias carbonatis adipis jj. Misce. (Mr. Partridge.) 311. Ointments for the Eyelids.—Bo Unguenti citrini (hydrargyri nitratis) 5ss.; adipis f^ss. Solve leni calore. Misce. 313. Calomel Ointment.—Yfc Calomelanos 5ij-; adipis 5vij. Misce. In chancre, condylomata, dc. 314. Ointment of Mercury with Opium.—Bo Unguenti hydrargyri fortioris unciam ; extracti opii grana quadraginta. Misce. For pain- ful nodes. N.B. Extract of belladonna may be substituted for or combined with, the above. 315. Green, or Verdigris Ointment (Pharm. Ed.).—Bo Cupri acetatis 5j-; cerati resinae Jj. Misce. For flabby ulcers, icarts, indolent erup- tions, dc. 316. Goulard's or Compound Lead Cerate.—Bo Liquoris plumbi diacetatis foiij- ; cerae Jiv.; olei olivae octarium dimidium; camphoras 5ss. Melt the wax, and add gradually to it the oil, in which the cam- phor has been previously dissolved; as they cool, add the liquor plumbi, stirring continually till well mixed. 317. Pied Precipitate Ointment. — R= Hydrargyri nitrico-oxidi optime pulverizati, 5j.; adipis 5]. Misce. 318. Chloroform Ointment.—Bo Chloroform 1 part; lard 2 ; blend quickly by trituration. (Squire.) In itching, as pruritus ani, dc. Section XIII.—Miscellaneous Prescriptions for various Surgical Diseases. 331. Remedies for Vomiting.—In case of obstinate vomiting, the stomach should receive for a few hours nothing but water by teaspoon- fuls, or small lumps of ice, and the patient should be fed by enema. The remedies known by experience to have most effect in checking vomiting are: Hydrocyanic acid, a drop of creosote in a pill, one-tenth of a grain of strychnine in a pill, bismuth in a large dose, and the white draught of carbonate and sulphate of magnesia. The food most easily kept down is cold chicken broth, by spoonfuls, or iced soda and milk. 332. Arnica.—Bp Tinctura? arnicas Jj. Dose, v\xv.—xxx.
