![ITOISE The siting of a fun fair on County Council land in close proxinity to houses produced immediate complaints from the occupiers. Although the proprietors were \mwi].ling to transfer their operations to an alternative site made available by the Borough Council, they agreed to re-position their mobile generatorsj and to accept limitations upon loudspeaker volume and hours of operation. The opportunity was taken to conduct a noise survey in the locality, and useful information concerning the effect of this type of activity upon ambient noise ? evels was obtanied, TABLE XXXIII Number of complaints received 40 Number of complaints investigated 40 Nimiber of nuisances confirmed; Industrial/Commercial 2 Road works/construction sites 26 Domestic premises 2 Ice cream vans - Statutory undertakers 6 Traffic noise - Other 4 Number of nuisances remedied 40 SWBMING POOL The open air sv/imming pool and paddling pool at Monkton Park are visited v/eekly during the season, and samples v/ere talcen to check levels of free chlorine and the pH of the water. The following table summarises the results Sv/imming Pool Children's Pool Average Readings: Chlorine* 0.9 ppm Chlorine 1.5 ppm pH 7.2 ppm pH 7.2 ppm The clarity of the water was generally excellent, although during exceptionally heavy use it was necessary to run the circulation piomps continually day and night to maintain standards. INPECTIOUS DISEASES 36 visits of enquiry wore made in connection Vvith infectious diseases and intestinal infections. All too frequently hov/ever the time lag between onset and notification ma,de it difficult to pinpoint the source, particularly v/here isolated cases v/ere concerned. V/ith the grov/th of air travel and foreign holidays it is essential that food handlers affected by stomach upsets v/hilst holidaying in the Uediterranean area check with theirdoctor on return, before recommencing work, A Disinfecting Station is maintained at Erogv/ell Hospital by this Department in a state of constant readiness. The capital and running costs are shai^d on a population basis by five authorities in the area.
