A review of the case of the Marshal Belleisle , in answer to a late pamphlet, intitled The case of the Marshal Belleisle truly stated, &c. Wherein his Right to the Benefit of the Cartel relating to Prisoners of War, actually subsisting between Great Britain and France at the Time of his Arrest, is dispassionately examined, and evidently proved by Arguments deduced from incontestable Facts, from the very Cartel itself, and from authentic Papers never before made public. Including a few seasonable Observations on the affecting Hardships of such of our gallant Countrymen as are now detained Prisoners in France on account of the Detention of the Marshal and his Brother the Chevalier De Belleisle.

The arrest of Marshal Belleisle , in the territories of Hanover, considered as a violation of the laws and customs of Germany, an Indignity to the Emperor and Empire, and an Arrogation of Sovereignty, unknown and unacknowledged in the Empire, but in the Emperor only; and likewise Considerations on an Attempt of the Regency of Hanover, to confound their Government with the British, by suggesting, in their Answer to Count Bunau's Memorial by Order of the Emperor, that the Electorate was at War with France, in Consequence of His Majesty's Declaration, as King of Great Britain. To which is annexed, an appendix; containing, My Lord Carteret, General Wade, the English Commissioners for Sick and Wounded, Marshal de Noailles, and Monsieur de Givry's letters for confirming and renewing the cartel between England and France. The case of the Marshal Bellisle truly stated in which, the manner of his being seized in Hanover, the usage he met with there, and his removal hither, are examined by the law of nations, and fully justified, as well by Precedents as Arguments; and the Reasons of his being brought over and detained here, explained and defended. To which is prefixed, a preface as to the motives of the present publication.
