The letters comprise:
MS.7741/1: to a bookseller, concerning works by Carolus Linnaeus (Carl von Linné) (1707-1778), January 15th 1759;
MS.7441/2: to a bookseller, concerning works by Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777), August 12th 1769;
MS.7441/2A: to his friend Dr Maxwell Garthshore (1732-1812) in London, September 16th 1775, discussing at length the practice of inoculation against smallpox and the way in which it was being carried out in Blandford, where Pulteney was based. Pulteney goes into detail about the inoculator (a man named Dollond), the numbers successfully inoculated, and the numbers who died as a result of the process.
