Description

Photograph of four 19th century English bell-shaped monaural stethoscopes with cone and pleximeter. From right to left, the first dates from c.1839 and is attributed to Elliotson. The second dates from c.1839, the third has a series of holes and was introduced by W. E. Crowfoot and the fourth was perhaps by Elliotson. They were acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1936, accession numbers (right to left): R2264/1936, R2308/1936, R2318/1936 and R2295/1936. Three of them are now held by the Science Museum (object numbers A608194, A608195 and A608198).
