Biographical note
The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) is an international, non-profit organization founded in July 1964 to promote excellence in the life sciences through support for researchers, scientific exchange, training, publications, and research policy initiatives. It is headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany. One of EMBO's early goals was to create a central European molecular biology laboratory. This effort led to the establishment of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), a separate but closely associated intergovernmental research institution. Michael Ashburner was a member of the Committee from 1986-1991 and was Chair 1988-1991.

The EMBO Course Committee organised courses on different topics to disseminate latest research and offer training in techniques.
