Description

Photograph of four 19th century stethoscopes. From left to right, the first is an ivory mounted telescopic stethoscope, the second was possibly designed by Hughes, the third has a rubber percussor and fourth is possibly after Williams. They were acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1936, 1940 and 1953, accession numbers (left to right): R1257/1940, R2282/1936, R20/1953, R2284/1936. They are not held by Wellcome Collection. Two are now held by the Science Museum (object numbers A75937 and A600060).
