The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Jimmy Edwards (1920-1988), British comedian and comic actor, extremely popular on British radio and television in the 1960s, he exemplified the ultra-masculine, moustachioed ex-RAF type of Englishman, but was a closeted homosexual, outed in the post-gay liberation era of the 1970s".
