Description
Two carved wooden statues of Saint Tugean, Breton Saint invoked against rabies, wolves and hydrophobia. He is often represented as a bishop with a child on his rght and a wolf or a dog on his left. Sometimes he is shown with a key placed on the back of a wolf, he is then dressed as a monk. The statue on the left was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4743/1937) and the one on the right was purchased in 1928 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R428/1938). They are not held by Wellcome Collection.
