French inscription on verso, partially indistinct, bearing bearing New Year's wishes to their "bon cher patron", a "patissier" in Rue Sainte-Anne, Nivelles.

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Two very rough looking working-class men, perhaps bakers or dairy workers in an intimate comradely pose which would have seemed inappropriately 'gay' in a later time".
