About this work

Description

Register of Dangerous Drugs Purchased and Supplied, kept by S Ruthven Mackay, MB, ChB, of York Road, Southend on Sea, in a preprinted volume: Dangerous Drugs Acts, 1920-1925, and consolidated regulations of 1937 supplied by C J Hewlett and Son Ltd, Charlotte St, London EC2. There is a summary of the regulations under the Dangerous Drugs Acts 1920-1934 inside the front cover.

Although the titlepage refers to this as Combined Register for recording Purchases and Supplies of Morphine, Diamorphine, Cocaine, Ergonine, &C., Medical Opium, Extracts and Tincture of Indian Hemp, Dihydrohyrdoxycodeinone (Eucodal), Dihyrdocodeinone (Dicodide) and Dihydromorphinone (Dilaudide) for the use of Retail Chemists, it appears to have been kept by a general practitioner who did at least some of his own dispensing.

Volume includes purchases of scheduled drugs by type, c. 1938-1957, and then a few from the early 1970s; and relatively few prescriptions supplied to patients (mostly just cross-referenced to an entry in the practice daybook), 1938-1940, and one in 1956.
