    ■JUNIOR CARLTON CLUB, London, ph August, 1883. \ Sir, I have the honour to request that you will officially bring under the notice of His Royal Highness The Duke of Albany, President of the Royal National Hospital for Consumption, Ventnor, the following important facts : 1. —The Hospital is under the patronage of Her Majesty The Queen, and said to be governed by a Board in London consisting of upwards of “ twenty noblemen and gentlemen,” with the Right Honorable Sir Lawrence Peel, late President of Guy’s Hospital, as Chairman. The management is therefore assumed by the donors and the public to be beyond all question. Such however is not the case, the management is of the very worst description. 2. —Sir Lawrence Peel, who holds the highly responsible position of Chairman «<• of the Board of Management, has been unable, most unfortunately, from increasing age and great infirmity, to pay the slightest attention to the interests of the Hospital, or to preside at a single Board Meeting for very many years past. 3. —Under these circumstances it is not at all surprising that the Hospital has fallen into the hands of certain Members of the Board who have taken advantage of the long continued absence of the Chairman, and arrogated to themselves the power of managing the affairs of the Charity when and where they thought proper.
