![A.D ls95 Date of Application, 21st Oct., 1895—Accepted, 14th Dec., 1895 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION. Improved Means for Treating Diseases of the Mucous Membrane of the Sexual Organs. I, Franz Fickert, Physician, of Schwerin, in the Grand Duchy of* Mecklenburg, Empire of Germany, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:— 3 The present invention has been designed for the purpose of obtaining more successful results in the treatment of catarrh of the vagina and urethra and other diseases of the mucous membrane, than has been possible heretofore by means of the usually applied injections, and this result is obtained by submitting the affected parts to the continuous healing influence of the appropriate medical remedy. 10 For this purpose the invention consists in the following apparatus which is shown in the annexed drawings in which, Fig. 1 is a vertical section, Fig. 2 a side view and Fig. 3 a front view of the apparatus to be used for the treatment of diseases of the vagina. Fig. 4 is a vertical section and Fig. 5 a side view of the apparatus to be used for 15 the treatment of diseases of the urethra. The apparatus shown in Figs. 1 to 3 consists of an elastic ring a in which is fitted a spring b. Connected to this ring a by threads or by any other suitable means there is fitted a tube-shaped part c which is to be filled with a medical preparation, say for instance boraeic acid or the like. The tube-shaped part c is 20 either pierced with holes as is shown in the accompanying drawing, or it is manufactured of some porous material, for instance, gauze. For the treatment of catarrh of the vagina, the above described apparatus, after having been previously wetted with water, is pressed together by the sides and inserted into the vagina where it will be expanded by action of the spring b and assume a firm position :25 without however inconveniencing the wearer in any way. The medical preparation contained in the tube c will be gradually infused into the secretions of the affected mucous membrane of the vagina and will thus be brought to bear continually on the affected part, from which particular disposition much better results may be expected than from the use of injections hitherto adopted. Moreover it may be 30 remarked that by the wearing of the above described apparatus during menstruation, the latter will be rendered perfectly odourless, as the disinfecting preparation infused through the tube c will destroy every trace of odour. The form of construction shown in Figs. 4 and 5 is to be used for treatment of the mucous membrane of the male urethra. It consists of a tube d filled with a 35 medical preparation which will be inserted into the urethra as far as the bladder and which is perforated or otherwise made so that it will equally exercise a con¬ tinuous healing influence by constant diffusion of the medical preparation contained within it. For the easier extraction of the tube the same is fitted with a small string e or the like. The parts c and d may be made of perforated thin indiarubber or of gauze or the like. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of this inven¬ tion and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is :— I. An improved means for treating affections of the mucous membrane of the 45 sexual organs consisting of a tube filled with a medical preparation which tube to [.Price 8^.]](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30737527_0001.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
