Notes
This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "A printed photographic postcard of Wilde, published ca. 1910, taken from the photograph by W. & D. Downey, 1889. Wilde is frequently viewed as the first great martyr to the cause of gay liberation in Great Britain. His arrest and imprisonment for 'Gross Indecency with males' in 1895 sent shock waves through British society that still reverberate. So notorious and reviled was he that 'original' photographic images of him such as the catalogued item from around the period of his death became extremely scarce".
