Photograph of an Inuit ivory snow knife and the bow part of a bow-drill, both engraved with pictographic records including hunting and fishing scenes and other domestic activities. The snow knife is used for making and shaping snow blocks for igluit and the bow-drill to bore holes in hard materials. These items were accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum (R233/1935, R3645/1937) but are not held by Wellcome Collection. The photograph was included in the catalogue for a Wellcome Historical Medical Museum Exhibition illustrating the medicine of the aboriginal peoples in the British Commonwealth, London, 1952.
