These were found in a cupboard in the Department of Pharmacology, Royal College of Surgeons, and given to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre by Dr Helen Cox of the Department in October 1995

Initially part of the Company of Barber-Surgeons, the Company of Surgeons was formed as a break away movement in 1745. It was granted a royal charter in 1800 and became the Royal College of Surgeons in London, later of England.

Paton's papers are also held (PP/WDP), as are order and account books of the Bristol Department of Physiology, 1925-1980 (GC/108).
