"Preservation": a note by Cruikshank on the corresponding drawing (British Museum) says "... Preserve!!! NB not intended as a joke 'Pheasants—Peasants'", i.e. the composition is not a joke about confusing peasants with pheasants

"An African settlement": epitaphs on the tombstones say "The hospital", "Orphan asylum", "Rectory", "The castle", "National school", "The barracks"

"Botheration": the British Museum catalogue (loc. cit.) identifies the man on the left as an Irishman and the man on the left as an Englishman
