    TO THE EEADEE.^ The following Report originally contained heliotype copies of the admirable engraving, and of part of the wonderful lithographic drawing, used to illustrate the essay of Bousquet “ Sur le Cow-Pox de Passy and the never completed fragment of Dr. Decanteleu’s “Mono- graphic des Cicatrices de la Vaccine.” They were very badly made and unsatisfactory. I therefore have caused the original illustrations, together with Bousquet’s monograph and Decanteleu’s fragment, to be bound up with the few copies of the Report remaining in my hands. I deem both of the highest possible value as pieces justificalives, corroborative of my assertion of what I consider an extremely important point, viz., the great and constant difference between not only the eruption, duration and other phenomena of the Vaccinia, induced by the use of virus of very long humanization, and that resulting from the inoculation of heifer-transmitted cow-pox virus, before the fall of the scab, but also of the cicatrices left after its fall in each. These few copies I purpose to present, from time to time, to those whose interest in Vaccination, and whose knowledge of the subject and its importance, may serve as a guarantee not only that the really very precious papers of Bousquet and Decanteleu may be pre- served, but that (a pair of literary life preservers) they may save my Report, in a few instances at any rate, from that dread dead sea of oblivion and waste paper which swallows up so many of the results of labor in this and every other field of medical research. 27 Dudley Street, Boston, U.
