CHEADLE. 30th November, 1958. To the Chairman and Members of the Alderley Edge, Cheadle and Gatley, and Wilmslow Urban District Councils. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the honour to present to you my report of the work done and conditions in the three sanitary districts for the year ending December 31st, 1957. The Report is, as always, drawn up on the lines recommended by the Minister of Health on whose instructions and to whom these reports are made. The Report is again a joint one, as this has been found to be most valuable, but too much stress should not be laid upon individual figures. There was no Maternal Death in any of the districts during 1957. The Infant Mortality in Alderley Edge was nil as last year, and this offsets the rather high Mortalities during the previous years. The statistics of all three districts are comparable with those of similar residential districts in other parts of the country. In 1956 attention was drawn to the number of deaths from cancer. In 1957 there is a reduction in the number of deaths in both Cheadle and Gatley and Wilmslow in spite of the increase in population. The reports of the Public Health Inspectors are given after my Report and continue to show satisfactory conditions. Special attention has been given during the year to work on the preparation and handling of food stuffs. I thank all the Public Health staff and also the Clerks, Treasurers and Surveyors of the various Councils for their co- operation.
