The first investigator who made experimental use of the change in electrical conductivity shown by various solutions under the action of enzymes was Sjégvist'. He found that the hydrolysis of albumins by pepsin was accompanied by a diminution of conductivity. This fact was confirmed by Oker-Blom?, who also observed that the action of trypsin was accompanied by a rise in conductivity and advocated the method as of great convenience in the study of the action of various proteolytic enzymes. It has been employed for this purpose by Victor Henri and Larguier des Bancels?, who have published a few experiments chiefly on the Jaw of action of trypsin on gelatin. I have myself carried out a large number of experiments for the most part on trypsin, a preliminary account of which will be found in the Arch. des Sciences Biologiques, X1.
