About this work

Description

The stray volumes held in this collection do not constitute anything close to a complete archive of the Society. Present are minutes of the Council and of AGMs, 1951-1964; class attendance books, 1915-1938 and 1951-1966; and a Visitors' Book, 1955-1966.

Acquisition note

These stray volumes were received with a gift of books from the British Medical Association to the library at Wellcome Collection.

Location of duplicates

The catalogue is available on microfiche via the National Inventory of Documentary Sources (NIDS).

Notes

The collection was catalogued by Julia Sheppard and Lesley Hall, January 1990, and the catalogue updated by Amanda Engineer in August 2000. This database description was compiled by Christopher Hilton on the basis of that updated catalogue, April 2003.

Ownership note

The British Phrenological Society was established in 1886, incorporated in 1899, and disbanded in 1966/1967.
Books from the library of the British Phrenological Society was acquired by the British Medical Association, and apparently these volumes also passed to the BMA at this time.
