Photograph of three statues of Louis IX of France (1214-1270) commonly known as St Louis, St Margaret of Antioch and St Giles the Hermit.
St Louis is invoked against plague. The statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R446/1938) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
St Margaret is the patron saint of married woman and nurses and invoked by women during childbirth and invoked against infertility. The statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R433/1938) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
St Giles is the patron saint of shepherds and all who deal with animals and is invoked against many diseases including cancer, epilepsy and sterility. The statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1928 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4768/1937) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
