Above on plate: Photograph of a half tone print, after possibly an engraving, of a carding engine and drawing frame in a cotton mill. Below on plate: Photograph of an engraving, of three men working at a print works making paper. These images were reproduced from Baines, Sir Edward, History of the cotton manufacture in Great Britain: with a notice of its early history in the East, and in all the quarters of the globe ... and a view of the present state of the manufacture, London: H.
