Biographical note
The Tower Hamlets Health Authority was established in 1981. It was an NHS administrative body responsible for planning and purchasing health services for the population of Tower Hamlets in east London.
In 1991, following NHS reforms, it became a District Health Authority, purchasing health services for local residents, mainly from The Royal London Hospital and associated community services.
By 1993 it merged with the City and Hackney District Health Authority and Newham District Health Authority to form the East London and the City Health Authority.
Ownership note
Savage was appointed Honorary Consultant to the Authority and sat on several liaison committees in this role. In 1985 she was suspended from her role on the grounds of alleged incompetence.
After the suspension, the Authority was involved in making provision for her return and in the enforcing of the Munro reccomendations.
