About this work

Description

Simple plasticine models and fragments of models of sections of the brain, brain stem and spinal cord, some showing neural pathways and sub-cellular structures, probably made for illustrative and learning purposes in the 1980s when Crick was involved in brain and consciousness research. They may be connected to one of the books he published in the 1990s, possibly The astonishing hypothesis : the scientific search for the soul. Also a polygonal model made from card and a coil of copper wire [but presumably made after Crick moved to California since the wire was manufactured in San Francisco]. It is not known by whom these models were made.
