Description
Photograph of three tobacco smoking items from New Guinea: a decorated bamboo container for tobacco leaf with stopper; a bamboo tobacco pipe etched with a geometric design; and a bamboo container decorated with a floral design. The container for tobacco leaf was purchased at auction by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1935 and given accession number A159582. The pipe was acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and given accession number A300214. The other container was purchased at auction by the Museum in 1931 and given accessioned number A201717. The first two items are now held by the Science Museum (object numbers A159582 and A300214) and the container was transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles in 1966.
